Villarreal v. Texas is a SCOTUS in the Classroom case. It was decided on February 25, 2026.

In this case, the Supreme Court considered whether a defendant’s Sixth Amendment right to assistance of counsel was violated when a judge prohibited the defendant and his attorney from discussing the defendant’s ongoing testimony during an overnight recess.

Each term Street Law selects the most classroom-relevant, student-friendly cases as our SCOTUS in the Classroom cases.
